Responsibilities

Works under the direction of the stake presidency to help oversee he work of the Church in the Stake. High Councilors have and advisory and administrative responsibilities as outlined below:

Represent the Stake Presidency

  • Counsel about and sustain stake presidency’s decisions to ordain brethren to the offices of elder and high priest
  • If assigned, represent the stake president when men are ordained to the offices of elder and high priest
  • Counsel about and sustain stake presidency’s decisions to issue callings to members
  • If assigned, represent the stake presidency in issuing callings, presenting members to be sustained, and setting apart members (see Handbook 2: Chapter 19)
  • Assist in overseeing the Melchizedek Priesthood in the stake by (1) orienting newly called high priest group leadership and elder’s quorum preisdencies, (2) providing ongoing encouragement, support, and instruction for these leaders, (3) meeting with these leaders regularly to learn of their needs, teach them their duties, and communicate information from the stake presidency, (4) periodically attending high priest group and elder’s quorum meetings, including leadership and presidency meetings.
  • If assigned, work with stake auxiliaries including attending meetings with the stake presidency and the auxiliary presidency and stake auxiliary leadership meetings
  • If assigned, help oversee missionary work and temple and family history work in the stake
  • if assigned, represent the stake presidency by speaking in sacrament meetings and other settings

Serve on stake councils and committees

  • Serve on the stake priesthood executive committee and stake council
  • if assigned, serve on other committees as needed. For example the Melchizedek Priesthood committee or Aaronic Priesthood committee
