Elder’s Quorum 1st Counselor
Responsibilities
Preside over, sit in council with, and teach quorum members. Direct efforts of the group to advance the work of salvation in the ward. Specific responsibilities of the Elders Quorum President include:
- Serve on ward priesthood executive committee and ward council
- Teach other leaders and teachers in the quorum their duties
- In consultation with the bishop, recommend brethren to be called to serve as counselors in the elders quorum presidency
- Submit recommendations to the bishop for brethren to serve as secretaries and instructors
- Oversee the records, reports, budget, and finances of the quorum
- Encourage quorum members to fulfill their priesthood duties, especially their duties as husbands and fathers
- Organize and oversee home teaching
- Oversee efforts to improve gospel learning and teaching in elders quorum
- Under direction of the bishop, plan ways to address welfare needs in the quorum
- Help prospective elders prepare to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood
- Plan activities for the members of the quorum
- Work with parents and young men leaders to help 18-year-old young men prepare to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood
